Kiambu is a county in Kenya recognised by the Kenyan constitution. Its county code is 022, making it one of the 047 Counties In Kenya. It was established under the 2010 Constitution and became effective in 2013 after the General elections, when it gained its first governor. Currently, Kiambu is Kenya’s most populous County after Nairobi County, with a population of 2,417,735.
Like other counties in Kenya, Kiambu is divided into sub-counties, Divisions, Locations, and sub-locations. The governor and county assembly formulate policies, executed by sub-county administrators, overseeing ward administrators and 257 sub-locations managed by chiefs. Elected MCAs liaise with ward offices to address local needs, while the County Commissioner coordinates national government functions.
